WELLNESS WEEK #3 –

Stress/Handling the Holidays – Nov. 8th – 12th

You need stress in your life! Does that surprise you? Perhaps so, but it is quite true. Without stress, life would be dull and unexciting. Stress adds flavor, challenge, and opportunity to life. Too much stress, however, can seriously affect your physical and mental well-being. A major challenge in this stress-filled world of today is to make the stress in your life work for you instead of against you.  Stress is with us all the time. It comes from mental or emotional activity and physical activity. It is unique and personal to each of us. So personal, in fact, that what may be relaxing to one person may be stressful to another. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and full of stress during the holidays. This week will be devoted to learning ways to cut down on stress so you can enjoy the holidays and life more.  Below are a few calendar items to put in your agenda.

Wednesday we will have a sweats day.    Please take this day to put on your comfortable sweatshirts and/or sweat pants …no slippers for this day though. J

Internet safety tips;

Be polite to others online just as you would offline.  If someone treats you rudely or meanly-do not respond.  Online bullies are just like offline ones - they WANT you to answer (don’t give them the satisfaction). Don’t believe everything you read.  Just because someone online tells you that they are 14 doesn’t mean they are telling the truth.  Even adults can’t tell when a male pretends to be a female or a 50 year old pretends to be a 14 year old.

What is Cyberbullying? Threats or other offensive behavior sent online to a person or sent or posted online about a person for others to see. It can be in the form of a message or email, or IM or a social networking site from someone who is threatening to hurt or beat you up. It might be rumors posted on your profile or spread online for others to see. It might be the deletion of you on a friend’s “buddy list” to make you feel left out. It might be a profile made by someone pretending to be you. Or, someone hacking into your profile and writing comments pretending they’re from you. Generally, cyberbullying is bullying or harassing that happens online.

Internet Safety tips;

Know who is texting you.

Do not answer calls or reply to text messages if you don’t know who it is.

Don’t open emails from people you don’t know.

Reminder:  When you enter the building, you need to turn your cell phone off and store it in your locker.  It is important that it is off and not on vibrate during the school day.  So…at this time…if you have your cell phone with you, please turn it off and take it to your locker.
